Savanna’s Story: “God Revealed the Truth in a Way to Get My Life Back in Order”
Savanna’s story includes addiction, prison, health struggles, and years of trying to find control in the middle of chaos.
At one point, she snorted sinus medicine. Not long after, an intense confrontation caused her nerves to “shoot out,” and the right side of her face began to twitch.
She developed Bell’s palsy.
“I had it for like four months.”
Even after that, life didn’t settle down. Savanna went to prison. When she got out, she started using marijuana again and eventually moved into methamphetamine.
Looking back, she says she was trying to find some kind of control.
But addiction only took more of it away.
Trying to Take Control
Savanna was dealing with more than substance use.
She was also dealing with the lasting effects of Bell’s palsy.
Even years later, one of her eyes still doesn’t fully close when she blinks.
That reminder is still with her.
At the same time, her life had become a cycle of instability.
She had been in and out of jail. She had been sent to a mental health facility. Drugs had become part of the way she tried to cope.
But somewhere in the middle of all of it, Savanna started reading the Bible.
And that became a turning point.
Opening the Bible in Jail
Savanna says she began reading Scripture while she was incarcerated.
“I started reading my Bible in jail.”
That habit didn’t stop when she came to Charis House.
In fact, it grew.
“Now since being in the program, I’ve completed two different Bibles, read and highlighted.”
For Savanna, reading Scripture wasn’t simply about checking off chapters.
It was helping change the way she thought.
“I feel more confident in my faith and in my mind.”
She can now say something she probably never expected to say during the years when her life felt so out of control:
“I can say I’ve read the entire Bible.”
Getting Answers She Had Been Looking For
